The dominant picture of the capital’s creative sector does not represent the wealth of projects happening amongst younger artists and curators in spaces outside of central London. Art Licks launched in 2010 and has since grown to provide an essential platform and voice for the lesser-known and under-represented activities that form the grassroots of visual culture in London. It is important that these initiatives and individuals are supported and their contribution to the diverse cultural landscape of London is celebrated as they form the future of its art scene.

Art Licks’ learning strand wishes to encourage the understanding, appreciation and development of contemporary visual art in London to local communities. Through its tours, workshops and discussion events, Art Licks promotes learning, understanding and the value of these risk-taking galleries and self-led initiatives.

Art Licks are looking to collaborate with schools and local community groups to facilitate tours and artist led workshops, hoping to inspire young people to consider higher education and career paths in the arts.

For the pilot year of its learning programme, Art Licks will focus on young people in Southwark, in particular 16-19 year olds, Year 12, 13 and Foundation. All activities are free to all, and take place from the week commencing, 30th September 2013.

Tours for schools or groups

Following the model of the existing Art Licks Tours, this is an opportunity for your class or group to walk and talk their way around the Art Licks Weekend. Led by us, you’ll see a selection of the exhibitions and we’ll arrange for some of the artists, curators or gallerists to be there to meet you, answer your questions and tell you their stories.

Talk to us about the topics you’re currently studying and we’ll do our best to plan a bespoke tour for you.

Artist-led workshops

Responding directly to some of the works within the Art Licks Weekend, our artist-led workshops offer your students/group the opportunity to produce their own responses, through a variety of media.

Talk to us about the topics you’re currently studying and we’ll do our best to plan a bespoke workshop for you.
