Art Barter is a way for artists and the public to exchange without using money. Established and unknown artists participate anonymously in the exhibitions, where only a number accompanies each work. The public is invited to make offers by completing barter forms that are displayed on pin-boards, encouraging people to think about what they have that is unique to offer, and giving everyone a chance to acquire artwork. The shows question the notion of value; how a piece can be appreciated by the viewer without being influenced by a name, title or a price-tag. Previous barters include 30 hours of French tuition in exchange for Tracey Emin’s mono-print; and a work by Tim & Sue for Gary Hume’s sculpture. You can see all exchanges here: artbarter.co.uk.
