Cypher is pleased to launch Billboard; presenting new work by Holly Graham, as the first in a series of five site-specific artist responses for a billboard space in North London.
The site hopes to challenge conventions of display, providing an alternative space for developing work that holds its own rules and limitations as well as freedoms and extensions.
Exhibiting artists: Felicity Hammond, Erin Hughes, Holly Graham, Milly Peck, and Amba Sayal-Bennett, maintain diverse practices that intersect at key thematic junctures. With an assemblage-like approach, these practitioners explore a breadth of questions surrounding public vs. private boundaries, urban redevelopment, histories of site, commercialisation of space, and mass-reproduction; navigated through a consideration of the aesthetic problem of image-reading.
In its extended run the site will act as a launch-pad, generating conversations through a series of satellite events programmed throughout the exhibition period.
