Nomadic Vitrine @ Assembly Point
49 Staffordshire Street, London SE15 5TJ, UK
Thursday 4 October, 6–9pm, Friday 5 October, Saturday 6 October & Sunday 7 October, 12–6pm
Recent Activity is organised by artist Andrew Gillespie. Running since 2015, Nomadic Vitrine invites artists to respond to a travelling display case. The vitrine, itself a redundant sculpture, replaces the gallery as a space for artists to create work in/on/for and is situated in a different location with every exhibition. Elvin Sanders contributes to this iteration of the project, presenting a digitally printed velvet rug. Based in Birmingham, Sanders uses his reactions to low quality digital images as the starting point for work, exploring the idea of ‘lifting images from the screen’ as a way of seeking ownership and participation with them.
